MARCUS GARVEY AFRICAN-CENTERED SCHOLARSHIP
The Mine and Yours Community Initiative (MAYCI) has created the Marcus Garvey African-Centered scholarship. The Marcus Garvey African-Centered scholarship serves as a form of financial aid toward the tuition of undergraduate, degree-seeking scholars, enrolled at any Historically Black College or University (HBCU) that offers African Studies as a major or minor.

Recipients of the Marcus Garvey African-Centered scholarship MUST declare a major or minor in African Studies/African American Studies/Africana Studies/Pan-African Studies.

​​​​Purpose: The purpose of the Marcus Garvey African-Centered scholarship is to provide an incentive to the scholastic approach of award recipients who will address the needs and surmount the conditions of African people the world over.
Mission: To ensure that every student at HBCU possess a knowledge base that is rooted in African Studies.
Vision: The Marcus Garvey African-Centered Scholarship conceptualizes the plan to infuse African Studies in every field of study at all H.B.C.U's in order to produce African-Centered scholars who are qualified to improve the conditions of African people worldwide.
Criteria: This scholarship is available to undergraduate, degree-seeking students who have completed a minimum of 48 hours of coursework with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher. Proof of the declaration of a major or minor in African Studies and the required G.P.A. must be provided with the application in the form of an official or unofficial transcript. Students transferring to an H.B.C.U. who meet these requirements, must provide an official letter of acceptance from the given H.B.C.U., an official transcript from the transfer institution, proof from the current H.B.C.U. that transfer credits have been accepted, reflecting the minimum hours of coursework and G.P.A., and proof of the declaration of a major or minor in African Studies.
What is African Studies? African Studies is a field of study that concentrates on the world experience of African people, taught from an African perspective.

Why African Studies? African Studies obligates scholars to employ the best approaches, perspectives, practices and relations that are necessary to improve the global conditions of African people. African Studies equips scholars with the fundamental, unique intelligence that complements their respective career path in order to correct the issues plaguing African communities throughout the globe.
